Do you enjoy telling stories about ghosts and goblins? Do you have a flair for the peculiar and spooky? Then perhaps your story will fit in at the Haunted Word Press. An online magazine geared toward middle school-aged kids and young adults. They are currently accepting submissions for their third issue: Cold Comforts. Submissions run from November 1st to December 1st, 2022.
The magazine is run by Editor-In-Chief Halle Merrick. Halle holds a Bachelor’s Degree in creative writing and is working on her Master’s Degree. She’s been spinning tales about ghosts and spirits for as long as she can remember and has created a space for others who do the same.
Haunted Words Press is looking for stories with a haunted winter theme for its upcoming issue. What kind of stories can you conjure on a cold winter’s night? What lurks behind the snowy ruins of an old fortress? Who knocks at the door in search of a warming fire?
HWP wants short stories of between 1,000 and 5,000 words, flash fiction of around 750 words, poetry, and visual art. Please make sure to read through all the guidelines before submitting your work. Also, please keep in mind the age group for which this magazine is intended.
This is not a paying market. It is a free-to-read publication and submitting is also free. Check out their first two issues to get an idea of what they’re looking for. Be sure to subscribe to the publication’s email updates to find out when submissions are open and when a new issue is released, or follow them on Twitter.
If your stories put a little more chill in the air, check out Haunted Words Press. Your submission might just be the story that everyone else has been dying to read.
