In my last post, I talked about some of the goals I’ve set for myself to get the new year off to a good start. My first goal was to come up with some kind of list for the many literary magazines I’ve been finding on Twitter. Well, I’ve managed to reach that goal. I’ve created a new site called Online Literary and Poetry Magazines. It’s going to be a little different than anything I’ve done up to this point.
When I first started putting this list together, I tried to do it on this site. I didn’t like it. It just didn’t look right, so I went on with plan B. I created a new site just for this list and I’m very happy with how it came out. But as I said, it’s a little different than any of my other sites. This one will have the posts updated as I add new magazines instead of having a new post for each one.
I wasn’t sure how I wanted it to look when I first started, so it was a little cramped at first. Then, I decided to break the publications down into alphabetical posts. That way, it’s easier to find exactly what you’re looking for. I tried to make it elegant and easy to use, but we’ll see how that goes as time goes by.
It’s still a work in progress and probably always will be. I’m going to try and keep up with which sites are accepting submissions, which ones are paying, and which ones have folded (hopefully I’ll never have to add that last one). It’s going to take some work, but I think it’s worth it. I had a ball putting it together.
I’m still trying to figure out how to market the site, other than social media. That’s the hard part for me. I always hope that I can just send out a quick tweet and the masses will come running, but that never happens. But I won’t quit trying. There has to be a respectable way to tell the world about this cool resource. And that’s what I want it to be. A great resource for writers looking to get their work in front of readers.
So, if you’re bored and are wanting to find a few new places in which to submit some of your work, check out my new site Online Literary and Poetry Magazines. I can’t promise you’ll get published in any of them, but I can promise you won’t if you don’t try. Good luck.
If you have an online literary and/or poetry magazine and you’d like to have it added to the list, just let me know. You can leave a comment here, contact me on Twitter, or send me an email at email@example.com. (Please put LIT MAG ADDITION in the subject line). I’ll come check out your site and get you added as soon as I can. I can’t wait to see your magazine.
